At the 11th annual Toronto International Dance Festival summer series – Dance @the Square, Mother Nature provided perfect weather, making it a delightful day for all. The festival was a celebration of passion, as famously noted by Martha Graham, “Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion.” This passion was on full display throughout the event.
Participants of all levels, including Toronto’s Mayor Olivia Chow, took to the dance floor, setting a spirited tone for the festival and encouraging everyone to dance freely. The festival was further graced by the presence of MP Jean Yip, Past Senator Hon. Dr. Asha Seth, MPP Andrea Hazell, Councillor Parthi Kandavel, and the Hon. Consuls of Finland, Malaysia, and Mexico, who officially inaugurated the event.
The day began with energetic Zumba and Line Dancing sessions and featured a vibrant showcase of international dance styles, highlighting the multicultural essence of the festival. The enthusiastic crowd remained engaged and energetic, thanks to the lively emcees Marcela Aranda, Paromita Kar, and Jo’el Douglas.
The success of the event was made possible by the generosity of sponsors, particularly Saji Alex of RE/MAX Community Realty Inc, the support of patrons, media partners, participants, dedicated volunteers, and the exceptional leadership of the organizing team.
The festival was a significant achievement, marking the first outdoor program since COVID-19, and the organizers expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved. With this successful experience, there is excitement and hope to make TIDF 2025 even better.
