Garba is a lively folk dance from Gujarat, India, traditionally performed during Navratri and other festivals and special occasions. It is known for its energetic rhythm, colourful attire and circular formations, with performances accompanied by singing, hand clapping, cymbals and traditional percussion instruments such as the dhol and dholak. The dance honours and celebrates the feminine form of divinity and brings people together through movement and shared participation. For more information, visit brampton.ca/garba.
“Every year during Navratri, Brampton is filled with colour, energy and tradition. Garba brings our community together across the city, and the City of Brampton is proud to continue this annual tradition through Community Garba. It is a celebration of our city’s cultural mosaic and an opportunity to experience the energy and joy of Garba. I encourage everyone to come out, put on their Garba attire and be part of this year’s celebration. Events like this are a wonderful reflection of the vibrant and welcoming city we are proud to call home.”
