Janmashtami 2026: Flutes, Faith & Festivities
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

From the sacred lanes of Mathura and Vrindavan to the spectacular Dahi Handis of Mumbai, India celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna with a dazzling blend of devotion, tradition, music and joy.

As the clock moves towards midnight on September 4, millions of devotees across India will gather in temples and homes, waiting to welcome the divine arrival of Lord Krishna. Conch shells will sound, bells will ring, devotional songs will fill the air, and the joyous chant of “Hare Krishna” and “Jai Shri Krishna” will resonate across the country.

But Janmashtami is not celebrated in just one way. India’s diversity shines through every Krishna celebration—from Mathura’s grand midnight rituals and Vrindavan’s devotional fervour to Maharashtra’s high-energy Dahi Handi, Gujarat’s celebrations in Dwarka, Bengal’s soulful kirtans and Tamil Nadu’s enchanting tradition of little Krishna footprints.

This is a festival where spirituality meets spectacle, where ancient traditions become living celebrations, and where generations come together to honour one of India’s most beloved deities.

This Janmashtami, let’s take a journey across India to discover how different regions celebrate Krishna’s birth—and why the festival continues to capture hearts, year after year.
