Mississauga Celebration Square will be filled with the sights and sounds of Bollywood on Fri July 24, Sat July 26 and Sun July 26 as #BollywoodMonster Mashup returns for its first-ever 3-day event. Festival audiences will enjoy free concerts by acclaimed artists, including Jolly Mukherjee, known for “Chandni O Meri Chandni,” and “Aaj Hum Tum O Sanam.” Joined by Priyanka Mitra, an Indian Idol Season 6 finalist, Mukherjee will perform his touring R.D. Burman Tribute Show—the only Canadian performance of this Tribute.
“This year’s festival has something for every generation,” says festival Founding Director Vikas Kohli. “Come Friday to hear legendary R.D. Burman classics like “Chura Liya Hai” and “Mehbooba Mehbooba.” And come Saturday to hear Neeraj Shridhar sing nostalgic 2000s hits like “Bhool Bhulaiyaa” and “Twist.”
The festival’s brand-new Sunday will offer even more family-friendly entertainment, with a free outdoor screening of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. And all three days will showcase performances infused with Kollywood and Tollywood beats, alongside popular Bollywood, folk, and traditional dances. The Bakshi Sisters will present a high-energy East-meets-West fusion performance. DDA Canada will deliver an energetic Bollywood x Tollywood dance set, while Toronto Jamming Culture will lead an interactive community singalong to beloved Bollywood hits. Moksha the Band will mash up Bollywood and Western songs in a Bolly-Jazz set. Kalakaar Collective, brought to you by OLG, will perform a Sufi x Bollywood fusion set. And the Burlington Gujarati Ladies Group presented in collaboration with Halton Community and Cultural Association will take the stage with a vibrant Gujarati dance performance.
“It will be a non-stop Bollywood party with over 200 performers,” said Managing Director Ev Harris. “I can’t wait to dance along with the audience, while enjoying delicious South Asian street food favourites like momos and pav bhaji from 40+ vendors.”
