Many of Canada’s very best T20 cricketers will be representative members of seven teams that will be competing for the 2022 Smart Investments Canadian Friendship Cup’s $30,000 prize monies. The 2022 Inaugural edition of the Smart Investments Friendship Cup was officially launched at a Tuesday June 7th ceremony held at Brampton City’s Terry Miller Recreation Center. Provincial Members of Parliament, Cricket Canada Officials, Sponsors, Players, Officials and Tournament Organizers were among those in attendance at the 2022 Smart Investments Canadian Friendship Cup’s Official launch
Bangalore Peshawar Titans, Delhi Kathmandu Royals, Gujarat Toronto Challengers, Jaffna Galle Centurions, Karachi Chandigarh Kings, Mumbai Lahore Knights and Rajasthan Rangpur Thunders will be the seven teams competing for championship honors as well as their fair share of the available $30,000 in prize monies during the June 10 – 22 T20 cricket tournament. The King City based turf-wicket equipped Maple Leaf Cricket Club will be the tournament’s venue.
The 2022 Canadian Friendship Cup is being organized by Cricket Beyond Borders, a not-for- profit organization that aims to use the event as a platform to promote unity, harmony, and humanity to combine with sporting excellence and financial rewards. Under Smart Investment Property’s title Sponsorship the tournament’s 2022 inaugural edition will include some very unique features as follows: a) Innovative team names to transcend geographical National borders b) Stringent team qualifying criteria to maintain high levels of competition c) Test match grade premium leather balls d) High prize monies to attract top talent. e) Amazing MVP prizes for each game and f) Cricket simultaneously celebrated as a sport, family and multicultural community event.
Among the many dignitaries in attendance at the tournament’s June 7 Official launch were Mr. Mohammad Sheikh – President TDCA and VP Cricket Canada, Mr. Harkirat Singh – City Councilor, Brampton Wards 9 & 10, Mr. Safqat Ali – Brampton Central Sitting MP, Mr. Ramesh Sangha – Brampton Central Former MP, Mr. Graham McGregor – MPP Elect Brampton North, Mr. Mohammed Shoaib – Member of Brampton Sports Hall of Fame Committee & Northern Ontario Cricket Association President, Dr. Jayanta Chaudhuri – Western New York Cricket Club Representative, Smart Investment Property Partners Mr. Abhay Mathur & Mr. Faisal Moledina as well as Mr. Saurabh Malik – The Bat Engineer Cricket Gear Manufacturer. Player representatives of the seven participating franchise squads were also present at the launch, the highlights of which were the unveiling of the teams’ jerseys and a cake cutting ceremony.
