#BollywoodMonster Mashup culminated in two days of live #BollywoodMonster Concerts presented by TD, food and family activities at Mississauga Celebration Square. Photos and videos being posted on social media show that the venue was packed to the brim both nights, and sources estimate that the festival’s audience was larger than the venue’s Canada Day event for the second year in a row.
“Thank you to our hardworking team, talented artists, dedicated volunteers, generous supporters and most of all, our GINORMOUS fun-loving audience,” says Vikas Kohli, festival Executive Director. “The festival was a huge success and I had the time of my life singing and dancing with you all. Keep posting your memories using #BollywoodMonster because I love experiencing so many glorious moments from your perspective.”
One of the highest-anticipated stars of the festival, Ash King (singer of “Baarish”), surprised fans on stage by teaming up with up-and-coming artists like SHIRSHA & Sunny G. He went above and beyond to engage his audience, going into the crowd to take photos and even inviting two of the festival’s young employees to perform onstage. The audience roared as Ev Harris, of German-Canadian descent, sang a song from Kal Ho Naa Ho in perfect Hindi and Rutvi Thakkar brought the house down with her dance moves. On Friday night, Aishwarya Pandit brought to you by Tourism Mississauga (singer of “Baithe Baithe”) made her dazzling entrance with the hit song “Zara Zara” going on to perform for an hour straight singing hit after hit. Pandit was followed by Shashaa Tirupati, who serenaded the audience with her hit “The Humma Song” and more, leaving the audience in the Square chanting “once more!” at the end of her set.
The Virgin Plus #BollywoodMonster Main Stage was full of memorable moments. Talented duo Sahil K & Sawan K lit the stage on fire with Sahil’s powerful voice and Sawan’s saxophone solo in a dynamic fusion set, followed by Moksha the Band’s performance of 2000s Bollywood hits to get the audience excited. Beach balls, trumpets, and thousands of people singing along were just a few of the sights to be seen during OLG #BollywoodMonster Orchestra’s original Bollywood x 80s music and dance production. Audiences were delighted by nostalgic mashups like “Papa Kehte Hain” fused with “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” by Wham! and “Apni To Jaise Taise” mixed with Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” There was also a Gujarati Garba dancing segment with Team NRITYA, South Indian Tollywood-inspired dancing from DDA Canada and Bollyhop from Reign Yash Dance Academy. Punjabi-Canadian Nachdi Jawani delivered high-energy Bhangra and Giddha. Audiences got behind-the-scenes access to all the artists at the Burger King Butter Chicken Sandwich #BollywoodMonster AMA.
