The Academy has announced the Oscar®-Nominated feature and short films, with a total of 14 nominations for films that were screened at the 2022 Calgary International Film Festival. In celebration, CIFF will be screening the Oscar®-Nominated shorts from February 17 – 19, 2023 at Globe Cinema, including the buzz-worthy local animated short THE FLYING SAILOR, by Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby, which won the CIFF 2022 Best Animated Short Film Award.
“We are thrilled for local filmmakers Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby for their nomination for THE FLYING SAILOR, and can’t wait to give our audience another opportunity to see this film, alongside the other nominated short films,” said Brian Owens, CIFF’s Artistic Director.
“It’s so great to see so many incredible films from our 2022 festival being nominated, so well deserved!”
THE FLYING SAILOR
In 1917, two ships collided in the Halifax Harbour, causing the largest accidental explosion in history. Among the tragic stories of the disaster is the remarkable account of a sailor who, blown skyward from the docks, flew a distance of two kilometres before landing uphill, naked and unharmed. THE FLYING SAILOR is a contemplation of his journey.
Watch all of the Oscar®-Nominated shorts films from February 17 to February 19th at Globe Cinema. Single tickets are $14 and will go on sale January 26th at 10 AM.
