TIFF 2025: A Star-Studded Celebration Beyond the Screen
As the Toronto International Film Festival gears up for its landmark 50th edition, running September 4–14, 2025, organizers have unveiled an impressive slate of events designed to connect artists and audiences in fresh and meaningful ways.
At the heart of this year’s programming is TIFF’s renowned In Conversation With… series, featuring cinematic heavyweights Park Chan-wook, Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, Tessa Thompson, and Nia DaCosta. These candid, in-depth sessions promise rare insights into the creative journeys of some of the industry’s most influential voices. Highlights include Park discussing his new film No Other Choice with co-writer Don McKellar; Johnson reflecting on his evolution from wrestling icon to Hollywood producer; Reynolds sharing his deep connection to fellow Canadian John Candy; and Thompson and DaCosta exploring their reimagining of Hedda Gabler.
“As we mark TIFF’s 50th edition, our programming continues to reflect our belief that film and creative expression can spark dialogue, challenge perspectives, and build connection,” said Anita Lee, Chief Programming Officer, TIFF. “From intimate ICWs and a Close-Up event with today’s biggest stars, to events designed to elevate and celebrate creative communities, we’re proud to offer Festival goers opportunities to further engage.”
For younger audiences, TIFF Next Wave debuts Close-Up, a spotlight on rising international stars Han So-hee and Jun Jong-seo, co-leads in Lee Hwan’s Project Y. The pair will share stories from their collaboration and global rise, including appearances in high-profile K-pop music videos.
The festival also continues to celebrate community and legacy. The invite-only Black Excellence Brunch, presented by RBC, returns for its third year, honoring the Black creative community while marking the 30th anniversary of Planet Africa, the trailblazing program founded by Cameron Bailey in 1995.
Public engagement extends to Festival Street, where the Criterion Mobile Closet makes its Canadian debut, offering film lovers a curated collection of 1,700 titles to explore, alongside opportunities to create personal video keepsakes.
With a balance of intimate conversations, cultural celebrations, and interactive experiences, TIFF 2025 underscores its mission to spark dialogue, challenge perspectives, and forge connections — proving that the magic of cinema thrives both on and beyond the screen.
