Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a five-day celebration marking the triumph of light over darkness as observed by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and Buddhists. As part of Diwali, many community members illuminate their homes with diyas (lamps) and decorate their floors with rangolis (intricate artwork made from coloured rice, sand or flower petals) to invite good luck and prosperity into their homes.

Brampton’s Diwali Mela reflects these traditions with attendees experiencing the cultural richness of this important celebration. The festival will bring together family, friends and communities to celebrate through prayer, gift exchanges, feasts and fireworks displays.

The City encourages attendees to plan well in advance for a smooth and enjoyable experience. For a full list of road closures, parking information and transit options, please visit brampton.ca/diwali.

On-site parking is very limited. We encourage attendees to leave their vehicles at home and take advantage of FREE Brampton Transit Shuttles which will be available starting at 3:30 pm from four locations: Mount Pleasant GO Station, Sheridan College, Gore Meadows Community Centre and Save Max Sports Centre. Shuttles will run every 30 minutes, ensuring convenient access to and from the event.

Fireworks safety during Diwali

The safety of residents is the City’s top priority. Under the Fireworks By-law, the use, purchase, discharge, possession, display, sale and offering of fireworks is prohibited.

Residents are invited to celebrate Diwali at Brampton’s Diwali Mela, where they can enjoy a spectacular City-organized fireworks display in a safe environment. Although sparklers are permitted under the by-law, they are not allowed at the Diwali Mela event.

The City of Brampton would like to extend its gratitude to the generous sponsors of this event: CAA, The Daniels Corporation, Genesis Brampton and TD.

For full event details, visit brampton.ca/diwali.

“Diwali is a time of joy, togetherness and celebration and we are thrilled to bring our community together for the second annual Diwali Mela in Brampton. This event not only highlights the cultural richness of our city but also offers a space for families and friends to experience the beauty and traditions of the Festival of Lights. With vibrant performances, delicious food and a spectacular fireworks display, we look forward to celebrating Diwali at Sesquicentennial Park.”

  • Patrick Brown, Mayor, City of Brampton

“Diwali is a time to come together and celebrate the spirit of light, joy and unity. Diwali Mela gives us the opportunity to share these traditions with the entire community and I’m excited to see our city gather to enjoy the performances, food and fireworks that make this festival so special.”

  • Harkirat Singh, Deputy Mayor, City Councillor, Wards 9 & 10, Chair of Corporate Services Committee
