Everest in “THE QUEST: Nepal”. Gravitas Ventures will release “THE QUEST: Nepal” across all TVOD/Digital platforms throughout North America – beginning on May 24th, 2022, perfectly timed to International Everest Day.
“THE QUEST: Nepal” is like combining Werner Herzog with Anthony Bourdain and a bit of Bear Grylls on an extraordinary Quest to deeper understand and climb the most iconic mountain in the world, Everest, while unveiling the fascinating culture, history and nature of Nepal.
“I summited at 12:30pm Nepal time on May 21st, and had the whole summit to myself for 45 minutes alongside my climbing partner and Sherpa brother,Tashi Sherpa (as seen in“THE QUEST: Nepal” ). This is not only unheard of to have the whole upper mountain and summit to yourself, but was completely unexpected and unplanned for as well. The opportunity to bring this first-hand, life changing experience to audiences is a gift I’m truly grateful to offer,” states filmmaker and climber,Harz.
International Everest Day is May 29th, commemorating the first time Everest was successfully summited on May 29th, 1953 bySir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand andSherpa TenzingNorgay of Nepal, which we reference in “THE QUEST: Nepal,” sinceTashi andHarz were all alone likeHillary &Norgay were back in 1953, and because of the weird striking physical similarities between Hillary andHarz andNorgay and Tashi. Somehow it was just meant to be, and the film offers audiences a unique flashback to that historic moment in time.
There have been over 300 deaths on Everest, and every year an average of 5 or more people die trying to summit the mountain during the April-May climbing season. The release of this film honors the adventurers among us and offers unprecedented access through the lens of a camera for the home viewing experience.
